UK Law Firms Will Soon Operate in India: K G Balakrishnan Chief Justice of India

Oct 31 2008

Makhan Singh and Aman Chhina attended a seminar on 'Judicial Reforms in India' organized by the Indo-EU Business Forum' at the Court House hotel, London on Friday, 31 October 2008 where Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan said that "I don't think Indian Bar Council can continue to resist (the proposal to allow foreign law firms to operate in India).” Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan has said that UK law firms could be allowed to operate in India but a final decision in the matter would have to be taken by the Indian Bar Council.

Timothy Dutton QC, Chairman, Bar Council, tried to allay the fears that in an open Indian legal market British Lawyers would not exploit the situations as true professionals and only provide specialist advice on International law if required by UK firms in India.
